Academic programs originating in the United States are conducted by the distance learning format, with the exception of those students seeking to be ordained in The Orthodox Anglican Church. For those seeking to be ordained, in addition to the coursework, it is necessary to attend two weekend seminars and three week-long seminars, either in NC or AZ (for the current schedule, please see “Seminar Schedule” link from our website http://divinityschool.org).
Online courses are interactive, internet-based classes offered through the Moodle platform. Online courses are eight weeks in length and are offered every ten weeks from August through May as well as a summer course offered in June. A course offering schedule is available through Enrollment Management and the SATCS website. The benefits of online courses include a structured approach to the course, including a defined start and completion date, regular assignment due dates and interaction with the instructor and other students throughout the course. Course guidelines and syllabi are posted in the online classroom and are available to students after registration for a class. Online courses require students to complete assignments and turn them in on a weekly basis, as well as participate in asynchronous online classroom discussions on a regular basis throughout the course. Online courses require a minimum number of students to enroll in order for the course to be offered.
Distance learning delivery methods include online courses and correspondence courses. Correspondence courses are offered only to the extent that an online version of the course is not available. Correspondence courses are sent to the student on CD, with full guidelines and course-specific Study Guides. Student correspondence coursework is carefully supervised. Two copies of all assignments for a particular course are mailed by the student to St. Andrew’s, where their receipt is recorded and then forwarded to the instructor for grading. The graded assignments are then returned to the school by the instructor and a copy of the graded coursework is recorded and stored in the student’s permanent record. One marked copy of the student’s coursework is then returned to him or her, along with the grade earned for the course.
